We have always felt that qualified ancillary staff are necessary for establishing good teamwork. All our nurses hold the National Certificate for Dental Nurses, or are working towards this qualification. The Practice encourages all members to participate regularly in post-graduate education.
Leo is the Principal Dentist at Ferndale. He qualified as a Dentist in 1994 in Bogotá, Colombia with an international inter-universities award for his graduate thesis. After qualifying, he worked in hospital as a Senior House Officer in the restorative department supported by a team of consultants where he acquired great experience in all aspects of conservative dentistry and prosthodontics. Following this, Leo started to work as a General Dentist in a private practice where he developed special interest in cosmetics.
After moving to the UK, he completed a diploma in Dental Practice Management and is currently working towards a diploma in Restorative Dentistry to add to his 20 years of experience within the dental profession. Leo is also a certified Invisalign provider (invisible braces).
His hobbies include drawing, oil painting and sculpting
James graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2016. Upon graduation, he was awarded Sheffield Dental Practitioners’ Club Prize, which is awarded to a single dentist who is adjudged to have set the highest standard of conduct as regards to courtesy, humanity and kindness in the treatment of patients.
He started his career here in Chesterfield and now splits his time working in private practice both here at Ferndale and in Lincoln.
James has an interest in all areas of dentistry but particularly enjoys restorative dentistry, oral surgery and endodontics. James is able to provide cosmetic tooth alignment using systems such as Invisalign and fixed options.
In his spare time James enjoys walks through Sherwood Forest with his two French bulldogs Bella and Luna. James is a hobbyist beekeeper maintaining a small apiary at his home, meaning a jar of honey is never too far away.
Derrick Willmot, who recently retired as Consultant Orthodontist at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital Sheffield, is Emeritus Professor of Orthodontics at the University of Sheffield, and has recently retired as Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons.
Having worked in General Practice in Ashbourne, Derrick returned to University College Hospital to qualify in Orthodontics. He was Consultant at Chesterfield Royal Hospital before moving to Sheffield. He has also been a Dental Advisor to the Medical Protection Society since 1992.
Although research interests have included Image Analysis of enamel demineralisation and workforce issues, he is most at home bringing his delightfully gentle manner to achieve a proper understanding of his patients’ needs, so that he can offer the best smile possible to his patients.
Ghazala qualified in 1986 in London. Having trained mainly in the realms of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, she holds a Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She is a registered Specialist in Oral Surgery.
Ghazala is also trained in the use of acupuncture and conscious sedation and is happy to offer these techniques along with a wide range of oral surgery procedures to enable comfortable treatment for all patients.
